About
ABOUT
Kelly cannot remember a time before she considered herself a musician. Just as Ray Charles once said, "I was born with my music inside of me. That's the only explanation I know of.""I can still remember when it all started" says Kelly. "I was in middle school, had just purchased Jewel's debut album, "Pieces of You," and was completely mesmerized by what I heard. I was so inspired that I pulled out a notepad right then and there and began to write. I've been writing on a regular basis ever since. "After graduating high school, Kelly left her hometown in the suburbs of Washington D.C. and moved to the New York City area to study music at Nyack College. She then transferred to Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA, to finish her degree. After graduating college, Kelly moved to Atlanta, GA, to pursue a career as the Director of Music and Curriculum for a children's performing arts center. "I loved my life in Atlanta at first. But life as I knew it changed when I experience a significant loss, the loss of my child. This was hands down the most painful season of life I have ever gone through. I ended up moving away from Atlanta and in with my parents who had moved to North Carolina. Honestly, it was hard to even make myself get out of bed in the morning. I felt like my life was over." However, this time for healing was a period of musical development in Kellys life. "The songs I wrote during this time where what made me realize that I want to share my music with the world. I've learned that God can use anything for good if you just give it time. I also learned that there is freedom in loving yourself for who you are, cracks and all. When I look back at where I was and see where I am now, I want nothing more than to share my story with others, that I may be able to offer a message of hope to those who feel hopeless like I did."As Kelly continued to pursue her music, doors began to open. "In the summer of 2008 I was contacted by Dean Cramer, CEO of Kings of A&R Media Group, who wanted to present my music to major record labels." After meeting with a handful of industry professionals, Kelly decided to sign a management deal with NewLine Management and remain unsigned by a record label while developing herself as an artist. And as she did, more people began to take notice. In May 2008, Kelly won a songwriting contest through Songwriter's Universe for her well-liked tune, "Like I'm Beautiful." She also opened for Blessid Union of Souls on their "Close To The Edge" tour in the winter of 2008-2009. Kelly recorded her debut album "Like I'm Beautiful" with producer Eliot Sloan, the front man of Blessid Union of Souls, which was released in the fall of 2009. She also completed a solo tour up the east coast, which included performances at the Annual 500 Songs for Kids Concert in Atlanta, Springfest in North Jersey, Florida Music Festival in Orlando, and the Feedback Conference in Nashville. It was at Feedback that Kelly Murray was offered a record deal with Transform Music/South Pawl Records/MMG, Inc. Kelly has since moved to Nashville as an independent artist. She is writing and performing as much as possible and recently joined the roster of Artists On The Edge with Foothill Entertainment Group managed by Art Wasem. She is now working on her second album "Green Light" with producer Mark Burch (Billy Currington band) which is scheduled for release in 2012. There is no place like Nashville. It's like living in a city of soulmates. I have fallen in love. Each day is full of opportunities and experiences that I only would have only dreamed of a year ago. I feel very blessed just to be here. I am confident that this is only the beginning of my budding music career and am excited for what is to come."
